Ladakh
High up in the Himalayas, Ladakh is often called “the little Tibet”. Inhabited by Indo-Aryan and Tibetan people, this area of India -very un-indian indeed- is sparsely populated and nomadic life is still common. The harsh of life here is printed in the wrinkled faces of herders living in mountains which seem to be in the middle of nowhere. The overwhelming landscapes awake a feeling of strangeness. Landscapes which make you think of the moon. A boy with a bicycle lost in the mountains. A christian cemetery on the side of a road. A modern gas station that looks out of place. The fairy tale village of Lamayuru with a strong tibetan culture. A toilet with a view to the mountains.
